Your Questions, Answered
We believe in clarity and transparency. Here are answers to some common questions to help you on your journey.
How do I get started with Kaplan Therapy?
The first step is to reach out for a complimentary 15-minute consultation. You can call us, send an email, or use the contact information on this page. This initial chat helps us understand your needs and determine if we’re the right fit for you.
What services do you offer?
Kaplan Therapy specializes in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) therapy, brain health coaching based on Amen Clinics’ methods, and consulting for fellow therapists. We focus on treating trauma, anxiety, and improving overall mental wellness.
What can I expect in my first therapy session?
The first session, or intake session, is about getting to know you. We’ll discuss your history, current challenges, and goals for therapy. It’s a collaborative process designed to build a foundation of trust and create a personalized treatment plan.
What is EMDR and who can it help?
EMDR is a structured therapy that encourages the patient to briefly focus on the trauma memory while simultaneously experiencing bilateral stimulation (typically eye movements), which is associated with a reduction in the vividness and emotion of the trauma memories. It is highly effective for individuals who have experienced trauma, PTSD, anxiety, phobias, and other emotional challenges.
Do you offer in-person or virtual sessions?
We primarily offer secure and confidential telehealth (virtual) sessions to clients throughout Florida. This provides flexibility and accessibility for our clients in the Greater Tampa Bay Area and beyond.
How long are the therapy sessions?
Standard therapy sessions are typically 50-60 minutes long. EMDR sessions can sometimes be longer, around 90 minutes, to ensure there is adequate time for processing. We will discuss the appropriate session length for your needs.
Do you accept insurance?
We are an out-of-network provider, which means we do not bill insurance companies directly. However, we can provide you with a ‘superbill’ (a detailed receipt) that you can submit to your insurance company for potential reimbursement, depending on your plan’s out-of-network benefits.
What are your fees for private pay?
Our fees vary depending on the service and session length. Please contact us directly for our current fee schedule. We believe in price transparency and will discuss all costs with you upfront.
Is everything I say confidential?
Absolutely. Confidentiality is a cornerstone of therapy and is protected by law. All communication and session content are kept strictly confidential in accordance with HIPAA guidelines. The only exceptions are rare situations where there is a risk of harm to yourself or others, which we will discuss in our first session.
How do I know if therapy is right for me?
If you’re feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or are struggling with past events, therapy can be a powerful tool for change. The best way to find out is to schedule a complimentary consultation. It’s a no-pressure way to ask questions and see if you feel a connection with the therapist.
